Optical Devices
What are Optical Devices
Many products utilizing lasers are used worldwide. Optical devices are optical components endowed with functions that create the laser itself (laser oscillation), change its color (wavelength conversion, phosphor), or change its direction (modulation, deflection).
Usage of Optical Devices
Wavelength Conversion Devices
These are devices with the function of converting the wavelength (color) of laser light using the nonlinearity of optical materials. Although broadly referred to as wavelength-converted light, each type has diverse functions and characteristics depending on the material and device design. A wide range of wavelengths, from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz), can be covered.
Electro-Optic Devices
By applying an electric field, these devices gain the function of rotating the polarization of laser light or changing the direction in which the laser beam propagates (deflection). They can also be combined with a polarizer to be used as an ON/OFF switch for the laser.
Magneto-Optic Devices
By applying a magnetic field, these devices gain the function of rotating the polarization of laser light. They are widely used as isolators, combined with a polarizer, to prevent back-reflection of the laser light.
OXIDE's Strengths in Optical Devices
We can cover from device design, according to customer requirements.
We can cover from device design, tailored to your requirements. Based on your desired wavelength conversion configuration, we implement and propose material selection and device design that take into account your key priorities (such as efficiency, lifespan, reliability, and beam quality).
When characteristic improvements are required, we trace back and address the issue all the way to material development.
For characteristics that cannot be solved by the device alone—such as inability of existing materials to withstand high power, insufficient conversion efficiency, large variations, or inadequate extinction ratio—we trace back the issue to material development, select the appropriate solution, and propose it to you.
We also propose solutions by providing customers with feedback based on our internal usage cases and experience.
OXIDE not only sells its proprietary materials and devices but also utilizes them extensively internally. We, therefore, continuously refine their quality through internal feedback loops. We incorporate this internal usage experience and accumulated knowledge on improvement into our proposals to customers.
