What is a Single Crystal

A single crystal is a material in which the entire bulk possesses a single, continuous lattice structure, with atoms or molecules arranged in a regular, identical pattern across three dimensions.
Unlike glass or plastic, the highly ordered atomic and molecular arrangement in a single crystal enables it to exhibit functionalities such as changing the color and direction of light, or controlling the flow of electrons. Consequently, single crystals are utilized not only in fundamental research but also in numerous everyday industrial products, including computers, mobile phones, automobiles, and medical imaging devices.
